Note: Her mother's maiden name was Johnson. She was also survived by one other sister Lula and one brother Leon who aren't mentioned.

In Akron, Iowa, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Johnson, Saturday, April 30, 1904, Miss Lila Belle Johnson aged 24 years, 1 month and 19 days.

When life should be at its best and when the goal of success that had been so diligently and cheerfully striven for was so near achievement, this young woman was called upon to answer the summons which we must all respond to soon or yet anon.

Lila Belle Johnson, the eldest of four children, was born at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, March 11, 1880. Her parents moved to Washington county, Nebraska, a year later, and four years afterward located at Pender, the same state, where she grew to young womanhood. She graduated from the Pender high school and taught two years in the school there.

She then took a course in the State Normal college at Peru, Nebraska, after which she taught a year in the West Point high school and last year in the Wisner schools, to which position she was re-elected this year, but was compelled to resign on account of her health.

She was an excellent instructor and (unreadable) in her work, and to her tireless application and endeavor to perfect herself in her chosen avocation is ascribed the source of her final illness. Six weeks ago she was compelled to discontinue school work and about four weeks ago she came home for care and treatment.

Drs. Clark and Lillie were in consultation and investigation proved her to be suffering with pernicious progressive anemia, a scientific test showing only ten percent of blood corpuscles, where there should be one hundred percent. All medical skill and the most loving care could accomplish was to soothe and lighten the days of suffering, and she passed from this life Saturday afternoon.

The premature taking away of a life of such beautiful character and usefulness brings a sense of personal loss and sorrow to all who knew her, and to the family, in this great bereavement, there is offered a full measure of earnest, sincere sympathy.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Monday afternoon by Rev. F. L. Moore, of the M. E. church. Interment was made in the Akron cemetery.

Present from out of town were Leroy Johnson, brother of the deceased, from Pender; Mr. Johson’s brother, J. M., and wife, from Allen Nebraska, and Messrs. Mart Maloney and F. L. Severance, of Pender, friends of the family
