RITES ARE HELD LAST FRIDAY FOR DOUGLAS JOHNSON

Infant Son Of Akron Folks Dies After A Brief Illness

Douglas Lee Johnson, infant son of Oriville Johnson and his wife, Arlene (nee Milbrodt), was born April 20, 1952, at Akron, Iowa. On May 11, 1952, Douglas Lee became a child of God through the blessed sacrament of baptism. He was baptized in the name of the Triune God and at this time all the blessings of salvation were bestowed upon the child of God, but also an heir of eternal life and salvation. The baptism was performed by the Rev. John Pannkuk in Trinity Lutheran church in Akron.

Douglas Lee was always a healthy child and up until Sunday, August 2, there had been no sign of a serious ailment. That day the child took seriously, but no one could realize at this time the seriousness of his sickness. On Tuesday afternoon, August 4, the physicians found it necessary to perform a very delicate emergency operation. It was hoped and prayers were spoken that the Lord might save the precious life of this child; but the Lord willed it otherwise. At 7:00 p.m. little Douglas Lee Johnson passed away and his soul was carried by the angels to the mansions above to enjoy eternal bliss forevermore. The child reached the age of 1 year, 3 months and 14 days.

Mourning the passing of Donald (Douglas) Lee Johnson are: His sorrowing parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Johnson his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Milbrodt; his great-grandmother, Mrs. Clara Miler of Akron; aunts and uncles, Hilma Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Milbrodt, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Milbrodt, all of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Milbrodt, of Akron, and many other relatives and friends.

“Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted.” Rev. Henry J. Dirks officiated at the funeral service, held on Friday afternoon August 7, at Trinity Lutheran church. Mrs. Virginia Swift sang “Jesus Loves Mr” and “Asleep in Jesus,” accompanied by Mrs. Anna Long. Acting as pallbearers were Shuryl Johnson, Carol Brown, Pamela Wilcox and Mary Jean Lamoureux. The committal service was at Riverside cemetery. A large number of relatives and friends attended these services.

So fades the lovely blooming flower,
Frail, smiling solace of the hour;
So soon our passing comforts fly
And Pleasure only blooms to die.

Is there no kind, no healing art, To soothe the anguish of the heart?
Spirit of grace, be ever nigh,
Thy comforts are not made to die.

Let gentle patience smile on pain
Till dying hope revives again.
Hope wipes the tear from sorrow’s eye
And faith points upward to the sky.
