Gordon Johnson departed this life last Thursday evening, August 14 1952, at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Johnson, northwest of Akron in Union County, S.D. He was ten years, 5 months and 18 days of age.

Gordon Harry Johnson was born at Akron, Iowa, February 27, 1942. On April 6, 1942, he was baptized by Pastor Ernest G. Svenson. He had been attending Mount Hope School, in which he was an honor student. As a member of the Junior department of Immanuel Sunday school, he had an excellent record of attendance and participation. He showed an unusual interest in the spiritual meaning of the lessons presented. One of his favorite songs was "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."

Those mourning his untimely departure are: His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Johnson; his brother, Darwin, of Akron; a nephew, Gerald Darwin Johnson; his grandmother, Mrs. Clara Miller, of Akron, many other relatives and a great number of friends. The heartfelt sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved relatives.

Funeral services were held in the Immanuel Lutheran church Sunday afternoon, preceded by a brief service at the Clare Morehead home. Pastor David Roy officiated. A great number of deeply-saddened relatives and friends completely filled the main floor, the balcony and basement of the church for this service. The songs, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," and "Sometime We'll Understand," were sung by a male quartet composed of Arden Johnson, Harry Nelson, Edor Nelson and Karl Silkebakken. They were accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Fred Dirks.

Pallbearers were cousins of Gordon. They were Milton Anderson, Gordon Kilstrom, Glen Milbrodt, Marlin Johnson, Norman Morehead and Russell Anderson. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
