Fritz Frederick Struck was born April 8, 1902, at Bennett, Cedar County, Iowa, and his early childhood was spent at Elkton, South Dakota, his mother and the children moving to Hartley about eight years ago.

The deceased was taken ill on January 25th, and it was decided that an immediate operation was necessary and he was removed to the Hand hospital where he was operated on Wednesday evening. Even at this time, the case had assumed such a serious nature that little hopes was entertained for his recovery and he passed away the following Tuesday evening, just a week after his attack.

Deceased leaves to mourn him the mother and father and three sisters, Mabel, Hazel and Vera, besides other relatives, many of whom were in attendance at the funeral.

Freddie was very patient, did everything gladly and met death bravely; kindly bidding all at the bedside good-bye, only breaking down while bidding his mother farewell for the last time. His ambition was to live and work for her.

The school, fraternal orders, and Sunday School vied with each other in bringing floral offerings. The funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the M.E. church by Re. Tompkins and the remains were laid at rest in the Hartley cemetery. The Sentinel joins with the entire community in extending heatfelt sympathy to those who mourn the death of this manly boy, who was a general favorite with young and old alike.
