Nis Nikolaus (Nick) Petersen, the sone of Henry and Catherin Petersen, was born December 30, 1889 in Waterman Township, Sutherland, Iowa. He moved with is family to Ceneter Township when he was nine years old. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

He was united in marriage to Minnie Brandt on December 30, 1914, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Center Township, after their marriage, the couple farmed in Center Township for many years before moving to Primghar in 1942. Nic and Minnie celebrated their golden anniversary in 1964. Nick was saddened by Minnie's passing on December 31, 1970.

Nick passed away on Friday, April 2, 1982 at his home, reaching the age of 92 years, three months and two days.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his children: two daughters, Mrs. Art (Erna) Nelson of Austin, Minnesota; Mrs. Dale (Mildred) Nelson of Primghar; one son, Elmer H. of Sutherland; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, and one sister, Mary Petersen of Primghar; also a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister, and one grandchild, Brooke Lynn.
