Ernest Christian Ahrenstorff (1889-1969)

Ernest Christian Ahrenstorff, son of Hans and Emma (Asmus) Ahrenstorff, was born June 19, 1888, at Big Rock, Scott County, Iowa. He had been in failing health since 1970 and hospitalized cince November of 1968 and passed away at the Cherokee Hospital on February 12, 1969, at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 23 days.

He came to the Hartley area at an early age with his parents and it was heere he attended the public schools.

He was baptized and confirmed by the late Rev. John Fischer, pastor of the former Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church. In 1918 he transferred his membership to the United Methodist Church wehere he served on the official board and on its board of stewards.

On March 11, 1914, he was united in marriage to Dora Sauer at the family home in Des Moines, Iowa. They resided all of their married life in the Hartley area where hewas engaged in farming, moving to Hartley in 1950. They had the privilege of observing their 50th wedding anniversary in 1964.

Born to this union were two children, Eugene and Ruth (Mrs. Marlin Vetter). They also raised a foster daughter, Arlen (Mrs. Gaylen Klinker).

Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Minnie, and one brother, Harry.

Survivors include his widow, Dora; his son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Ahrenstorff, daughter and husband, Mrs. and Mrs. Marlin Vetter, all of Hartley; daughter and husband, Mrr. and Mrs. Gaylen Klinker of Sutherland; nine grandchildren [redacted]; his twin brother, Emil of Hartley, and brother Walter of Saint James, Minnesota; nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and his many friends.

Last rites were held at the United Methodist Church, Hartley, on Saturday, February 15. Rev. Keith Scott officiated. Interment was made in Pleasant View cemetery with Baumgarten Funerl Home in charge of funeral arrangements.
