Vera Katherine (Peper) Westphal (1911-2006)

Vera Katherine (Peper) Westphal, the daughter of Hans and Elizabeth (Woese) Peper, was born in O'Brien County, near Paullina, Iowa, on October 3, 1911. She lived her youth near Paullina and attended country school through the 8th grade.

Vera married Gus Westphal in February, 1932 and to this union one child was born, a daughter, Charlene. Vera and Gus farmed for many years and raised their daughter near Archer. Vera entered the Prairie View Nursing hon on February 14, 2006, and passed away there on March 22, 2006.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Charlene Hurtig of Archer, Iowa, three grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a sister, Nellie Ballou of Larchwood, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son-in-law, Marlo, two brothers, and one sister.

Vera was a past member of the Primghar Methodist Church and had lived at the Bee Hive Assisted Living in Sheldon for two years prior to moving to the Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, Iowa.

She enjoyed music, flowers, bowling, fishing, dancing, gardening and spending time relaxing at their cottage on Big Spirit at Spirit Lake, Iowa.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
