Funeral services for Joseph Howard, 74, West Liberty, were held July 2 at St. Joseph's Catholic church in West Liberty, with burial in Mount Calvary cemetery.

Mr. Howard died July 29 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City.

He married Madeline Summitt in 1931 in West Liberty and he retired in 1965 as a railway mail clerk on the Rock Island Lines.

Mr. Howard was a past president of the National Postal Transport Association Union and was a member of the church.

He is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, Leta Christensen, West Liberty and Gertrude Nash, Coralville; 13 grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Jepsen, West Liberty and a brother, Leo, San Jose, CA.
