Mavis,
I noticed your posting, and wanted to let you know that John Lafayette Duffy is buried at Pleasant Corners - he doesn't show up in the cemetary records though. He was my great grandfather, and I have two newspaper accounts of his death; both of which list his year of birth incorrectly:
“Lafe Duffey of this place passed away at his home in Fredric. Mr.Duffey has been failing in health of late, but his death came as a shock to his friends. Lafe Duffee, son of John and Margaret Duffee was born in Dudley, IA March 15, 1846 and died at the age of 59 years, 2 months, and 7 days. He leaves to mourn his demise, five sons…”
“Died at his home in east part of Frederic, Lafe Duffee. He had been failing for some time, although his death came as a shock to his friends. He was the son of John and Margaret Duffee, born in Dudley, Iowa on March 15, 1846, died June 22, 1915 at age 49 years, 3 months, and 7 days. He leaves to mourn his demise, five boys and one daughter, one brother, Con Duffee, and one sister, Mrs. Walter Reeves of this place, and the friends and relatives. His remains were laid at rest at the Pleasant Corners cemetery.”
I have other census information if you'd like - are you doing family research?
