Mr. Neslon seemed to be editor of the local newspaper for 10 years. As stated in the 1878 history of Monroe County: "September 1871 Cary L. Nelson took over editorial position of the Union(Weekly Albia Union) became the acknowledged writer for it. The paper, now conducted by Mr. Nelson is owned solely by Mr. Mendal."
The paper started in 1854 and is still in operation. There has been a variety of newspaper names with different owners and editors, some started just for political purpose. But I think the one Mr. Nelson worked for is the same as the Albia Union Republican being printed today.
In the 1896 Hickenlooper history, C.L.Nelson is listed as a business man being in Insurance for 30 years. Also, in 1896 he was listed as a soldier residing in Monroe County but who enlisted from another locality.
