Monroe County Record of Deaths, vol 1 (no page numbers)

Charles Thornton, male, 34, miner, married, date of death: June 1901, place of birth: Australia Bishen(?), place of death: Foster, cause: fall of slate in mine, place of burial: Albia

There should be a copy of the certificate at the State Historical Society in Des Moines in the archive holdings since it's older than 75 years ago. Or if you want a certified copy you can contact the Department of Public Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics, Lucas Office Building, Des Moines Iowa or from the Monroe county recorder's office.
