I had a little time at the Iowa State Historical library today to check the Monroe co death records (vol 1 1891-1904; 1925-1935) to narrow down the death date. There was only one Heyland/Helean in that volume.
Heyland, John; male, 23 y 10m 22d, farmer, dod 8 Dec 1899, single, born Cedar twp, died Cedar twp, cause accident, burial Catholic Cemetery Weller
You might try contacting the diocese to see if they have a record of the death or local funeral homes.
