HORNICK, Iowa - Wayne L. Smith, 55, of Hornick, died Thursday at the Onawa hospital after a short Illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dale Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Willow Township Cemetery near Holly Springs under the direction of the Wood Funeral Home of Sloan, Iowa. Graveside military services will be conducted by the American Legion.

Mr. Smith was born Aug. 13, 1927, in Oto, Iowa. He married Mary Steele Oct. 18, 1946, in Dakota City, Neb. He was the manager of the Empire Gas Company of Hornick and a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion Hindman Steele Post 492.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. James (Carolyn) Mason of Williamstown, N.J., Mrs. Lowell (Patricia) Sarff of Sioux City, and Mrs. David (Donna) Wilder of Salix, Iowa; two sons, Chuck of Chatsworth, Iowa, and Bob of Hornick; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Smith of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
