Betty Marie Martindale, 86, of Turin, Iowa passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the Onawa United Methodist Church in Onawa, Iowa with Jack Gibler, officiating. Burial will follow in Belvidere Cemetery, Turin, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Monday, July 5, 2021 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.
Betty Marie was born July 29, 1934 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Frank and Hazel (Deal) Adams. She attended elementary school in Moorhead, Iowa and graduated from Onawa high School in 1952. Growing up she worked for the Frog Pond in Turin, Iowa. Betty loved her trick pony, “Daisy”. She was a member of the Moorhead Saddle Club in her younger years.
Betty married Gene Martindale on July 25, 1952 in Onawa, Iowa. To this union, five children were born. They made their home in Turin, Iowa. Gene & Betty started a successful auction company later joining with real estate, Bestway Auction Company and was an appraiser for many years. They both enjoyed having the Auctions for Pleasant View Care Center and the fundraising for the Turin United Methodist Church every year. Betty spent lots of her time doing different community service projects. For many years they both helped with the Pie Auction at the Monona County Fair in Onawa, Iowa. Gene passed away September 29, 2017.
She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, canning, and being a farm wife. She loved to watch the Price Is Right and Days of Our Lives. The coffee was always on.
Betty was an active member at the Turin United Methodist Church, Turin, Iowa.
Survivors include her children; Susan (Dick) Bellis of Blencoe, Iowa, Rick (Carla) Martindale of Springfield, Nebraska, Betty Jean Abrams of Blencoe, Iowa, and Gary Martindale of Turin, Iowa; her grandchildren, Clint (Amy) Walker, Tracey (Trevor) Miller, Neal (Jen) Raymond, Curtis (Stephanie) Martindale, Isaac (Amy) Martindale, Amber (Brent) Griffith, Mindy (Travis) Menish, and Rosie (Brice) Meyer; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Thompson of Honey Creek, Iowa; brother, Leroy Adams of Colorado; sisters-in-law, Marlene Sargent of Omaha, Nebraska; Doris Martindale of Fremont, Nebraska, and Sharon Burnsides of Omaha, Nebraska; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Martindale; parents, Frank and Hazel (Deal) Adams; son, Joe Martindale; great-grandson, Logan Martindale; brothers-in-law, Glenn Jr. Martindale, Richard Martindale and Sonny Thompson; and a cousin, Norman Martindale.
Memorials received will be directed to the Turin United Methodist Church, Turin, Iowa.
