14 April 2021Charles Scott Bettin “Chuck”, age 59 of Onawa, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, April 7th, 2021 after a 7-month struggle with Cancer.
A funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at The First Christian Church in Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Michael Lewis officiating. Social distancing and masks requirements will be honored. (Please bring and wear masks). Burial will be next to Chuck’s Mother, in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.
Chuck was born in 1961 at the Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, and was named after his Great-Grandfather. Chuck was one of God's special children born with a high functioning handicap disability. Chuck shared his life with caregivers, staff, friends and family who helped him grow and offered him love, caring and friendships.
Chuck's presence was always known in a room as it was often his wish to introduce himself to everyone and enjoyed making friends. Currently, he was a resident at Crossroads of Western Iowa and lived in a group home environment and liked being independent.
Chuck’s disability limitations never held him back. He excelled when participating in Special Olympics. He was also a proud member of The First Christian Church of Onawa, attending Sunday school and church services every Sunday until the pandemic kept him from doing so. Chuck enjoyed traveling, video games, picture taking, "oldies" music, and was very proud to have been employed by Casey's General Stores of Onawa for 20 years. He was especially proud to be "Uncle Chuck" to his "3 boys, 1 girl".
He is survived by his father, Marlan Bettin of Onawa, Iowa; his sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Matt “Max” of Le Mars, Iowa; his niece and nephews, Nichole (husband Nathaniel) Tonner of Omaha, Nebraska, Mitchel (wife Jennifer) Mack of Sioux City, Iowa, Austin (girlfriend Yue He) of Ames, Iowa, and youngest nephew, Noah Krommenhoek of Le Mars, Iowa.
Chuck will be greeted in Heaven by his mother, Pat Bettin of Onawa, Iowa; grandparents, Gladys & Melvin Bettin of Onawa, Iowa and grandparents, Ella & Ray Shetler of San Diego, California.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt "Thank You" to the staff at Crossroads of Western Iowa and to the Hospice staff of Burgess Health Center of Onawa, Iowa.
