Lola Eileen (Shanahan) Smith was born in the town of Ute on May 28, 1932 to John and Ruth Shanahan. She passed away peacefully, on March 11, 2021, in her home in Lake Havasu, AZ, surrounded by family.

Lola met and married Charles (Bud) Smith on Feb. 4, 1950. To their union there were six children: Susan Fountain (Mike), Jerry Smith, Jolynn Case (Tim), Lori Middendorf (Steve), Cindy Smith, and Jeff Smith (Sandi); 12 grandchildren: Michele McFarlane, Troyce Hargis-Monroe, Justion Monroe-Mitchelson, Jamie Brennan, Timothy Case Jr., Jodie Case, Thomas Case, Ryan Villigan, Samantha Smith, Tina Smith, Courtney Smith, and Welsey Smith; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Although Bud and Lola spent most of their married life in California, raising their family, at the end of the school year, bags were packed and the family was on their yearly vacation to Iowa.

Lola is preceded in death by her husband Bud of 66 years (2016), her son Jerry (2003), her parents, and brother Dennis Shanahan.

She’ll be greatly missed by those who loved her and cared for her. There was a Celebration of Life held on March 20 in Lake Havasu.

A graveside service is planned for Bud and Lola at a later date at St. Clair Cemetery.
