Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, masks are encouraged and social distancing rules apply. The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Rick was born in the family home above the Lane Café in Castana, Iowa on July 8, 1948. From an early age, it was apparent Rick had a passion for heavy equipment, and he could be seen on a Caterpillar helping the family business. Rick excelled in sports at school and looked forward to summers, where he could focus on his skills in construction. He graduated from Charter Oak-Ute High School in 1966.

Rick’s first job after high school was joining the union for Operating Engineers, which led to a rewarding career. With Rick’s strong work ethic coupled with his effective communication style and natural leadership attributes, he progressed to the top of the Local 234 Operating Engineers as Business Manager before retiring in 2011.

Rick enjoyed a good game of cards with family on any occasion, particularly euchre and 31. He also truly enjoyed frequenting casinos to try his luck with his siblings Marsha and Kim. Throughout his life, he was quite generous with his loved ones, providing the needed level of support without hesitation.

Rick is preceded in death by his father Raymond (Bob) Lawrence Lane and brother-in-law, Mike Jividen. He is survived by his loving mother Virginia Keating; his sister, Marsha Jividen, brother Kim Lane, daughter Regina Kehl and son-in-law Ben Kehl, son Ryan Lane and daughter-in-law Jaimi Lane. Rick is also survived by Carol Fruechtenicht, his significant other, and several grandchildren and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers and plants, memorial gifts may be given to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The family of Rick wishes to extend our sincere thanks to June E. Nylen Cancer Center as well as the Unity Point Hospital and their staff for the care and comfort given in his final days.
