Jerry Kessler, 59, Onawa, Iowa, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, of a heart attack. Memorial services will be at a later date in Onawa. Arrangements are under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa. He was born in Mitchell on March 27, 1952. He graduated from Notre Dame High School, Mitchell, and South Dakota State University.

He was married to Deb Reed.

Jerry is best remembered for his musical and artistic talents.

He was self-employed as a potter and was in business as Loess Hills Pottery for many years. His work was displayed at the Oscar Howe Art Center and art shows and centers in Nebraska and Iowa.

Jerry's love was music. He liked most styles of music and played them as well. He played guitar, banjo, mandolin and harmonica and taught music lessons on all of these instruments. His fellow musicians and friends will miss him greatly.

He is survived by his wife, Deb; and daughter, Teniesha, Onawa; mother, Mary Ann Kessler; and brother, Gene Kessler, Mitchell; and sisters: Alice Butterfield, Lynwood, Ill.; and Deanna Kessler, Tucson, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lee; and his father, Wilfred Kessler.
