WESTFIELD, Iowa - L.W. "Walt" Onnen, 68, of Hornick, Iowa, formerly of Westfield and Akron, Iowa, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1996, at a Onawa, Iowa hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, with the Rev. William Flemr officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Onnen was born Jan. 8, 1928, in Westfield, the son of Fred and Margaret (Jans) Onnen. He married Beulah Pilcher on July 3, 1955, in Nogalis, Mexico. He was employed with American Fence in Phoenix, Ariz. and Denver, Colo, for many years. He sold feed in the Climbing Hill and Hornick, Iowa areas and operated a grocery store in Climbing Hill for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He enjoyed raising and showing horses.

Survivors include his wife; five sisters, Betty Kluender and Norma Miller both of Phoenix, Delores Dreezen of South Sioux City, Millie Lawrence of Salix, Iowa, and Stella McConnhie of Monteque, Calif.; a son, Wally of Worthington, Minn.; a daughter, Sandra Bentley of Blair, Neb.; a step-son, Robert Pilcher of Omaha, Neb.; four grandsons; two step-grandchildren; and a step- great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and a step-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Mel and Tom Menard, Gary Petz, Terry Lawrence, Brad Prall, and John Amundson.
