Basil J. Prichard

HORNICK. Iowa - Basil J. Prichard, 81, of Hornick died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Hornick United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Edgar Elliot officiating. Burial will be in Grant Township Cemetery near Rodney, Iowa, with a Masonic service conducted by the Attica Lodge 502 A.F. & A.M. Wood Funeral Home of Sloan, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Prichard was born Dec. 29, 1914, the son of Jay and Emily (Mellott) Prichard. He spent his life in Hornick, graduating from Hornick High School in 1933. He operated a milk route from 1937 to 1942. He married Mabel Odland on Dec. 29, 1936, in Canton, S.D. She died Nov. 23, 1992, in Omaha, Neb.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Hornick where he taught Sunday School for several years and served on various church committees and on the church board. He was a member of the Attica Lodge 502 A.F. & A.M. in Sloan, where he was a Past Master, the Sioux City Consistory, the York Rite Bodies, the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple in Sioux City, and the Vintage Wheels Club of the Shrine.

He served on the Grant Center School board, and on several county committees, and was Clerk of Grant Township for many years.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Judy Shull and Rodney Hiebenthal of Milford, Neb.; three grandchildren, Kerry Koening, Kelly Bosak, and Kyle; two brothers and their wives, Paul and Phyllis of Mapleton, Iowa and Steward and Justine of Hornick; and three sisters, Helen Birchard and Effie Till both of Hornick and Grace Parker of Orange, Calif.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gene; two brothers; and a sister.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Loess Hill Historical Society of Monona County or the High School Scholarship Fund of the Attica Lodge.
