Artie Booy was born on November 18, 1915, west of Pella, Iowa on the Roberts Creek Road. She was the 4th of 8 children that were born to Nicholas and Henrietta Wilhelmina Kelderman Booy.

She attended the Pella Christian Grade School in Pella and made public profession of her faith at the Second Christian Reformed Church on May 26, 1935, at the age of 18 years. Artie made her home with her parents for many years while working at the Rolscreen Company in Pella.

Artie attended Monroe Old Settlers at Monroe, Iowa with her good friends, Gertrude and Willard Rietveld, where she met Cornie David Rietveld. Artie and Cornie shared special interests fishing and hunting and on July 24, 1956, they were united in marriage at the Second Christian Reformed Church.

Artie continued working at Pella Corporation for 32 years until she retired in 1977. Cornie passed away of cancer on December 1, 1985. Artie eventually sold her home in Pella and became a resident at Fair Haven East on April 1, 1991. In August of 2001 she became a resident at the Griffin Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville, Iowa.

On Saturday morning, August 15, 2009, she passed away at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella at the age of 93 years.

Artie is survived by her brother, Leonard Booy and his wife, Lena, of Litchfield, Michigan; her sister, Pearl and her husband, Joe Stravers, of Holland, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cornie Rietveld; her parents, Nicholas and Henrietta Booy; two brothers, James, who died in infancy and her oldest brother, William Booy; and three sisters: Lena Booy, Alice Huisman and Nellie (Spencer) Ver Meer.

Artie was a lifelong, faithful member of the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella and church life was very important to her. Artie taught Sunday School, served as president of the young girls Loyal Workers Society, sang in the choir and attended The Golden Hour Society for many years. She attended Women’s Christian Edification meetings and Bible League meetings. Sundays were like a foretaste of heaven. She was always appreciative for having had Christian parents and fulfilled a mission in life when her husband, Cornie, became a Christian. For several years she volunteered for the Pella Community Hospital Auxiliary and the Fair Haven Auxiliary. Artie found great joy in being helpful to others.
