Stouwie, Faye O. (Van Wyk) 1928-2009

Faye Ola Van Wyk was the youngest of fourteen children that were born to Gysbert and Gertrude Van Arkel Van Wyk. She was born on September 23, 1928, at Sully, Iowa.

Faye graduated from the Dairy Grove Country Grade School.

On June 6, 1947, she was united in marriage with Gerrit Nelson Stouwie at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sully and to this union two sons were born: David Allen and Bradley J. Faye and Gerrit lived in Oskaloosa, Iowa for a short while before moving to Pella, Iowa. They lived in Pella the remainder of their married lifetime.

Faye was employed at the Christian Opportunity Center and the Pella Community Hospital. She also occupied her time crocheting afghans, sewing and conducting ceramics classes. The family has many remembrances of her talents.

On Friday evening, July 31, 2009, Faye passed away at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 8 days.

Faye is survived by her husband, Gerrit Stouwie; a son David Stouwie and his wife, Diane, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and their son, Michael; a son, Bradley Stouwie and his wife, Karen, and their two daughters, Valerie and her daughter, Kaylee, and Lynn of Box Elder, South Dakota. Of her original family Faye leaves her brother, David Van Wyk and his wife, Edith of Grinnell, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Nellie (Bert) Van Wyk of Pella and Tunetta (Marion) Van Wyk of Otley, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Henry Terlouw of Lynnville, Iowa. Her husband’s family includes the following siblings: Helen (Stouwie) and Elmer Klein of Pella, Bernice (Stouwie) and Bob Hoyt of Pleasantville, Iowa, Bob Leftwich of Clay Center, Kansas, Elner (Stouwie) and Cornie Spoelstra of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Betty (Stouwie) and Marvin Bruxvoort of Pella, Wilma (Stouwie) and Carl Vander Wal of Nevada, Iowa, Cecil and Carolyn Stouwie of Port Richey, Florida, Leona (Stouwie) and Wayne Veldhuizen of Oskaloosa.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Gysbert and Gertrude Van Wyk; her parents-in-law, Cecil and Bertha Ryken Stouwie; five brothers and their wives: Bill and Johanna Van Wyk, Case and Artie Van Wyk, Henry and Clara Van Wyk, Bert and Pauline Van Wyk and Marion Van Wyk and her seven sisters and their husbands: Carrie and John Braaksma, Mattie and Gerrit De Hoedt, Minnie and Ben Ver Steeg, Jeanette and Max Antle, Gertie and Jim Ver Steeg, Alenis and Rex Brush, and Mary Grace (Henry) Terlouw.

She was also preceded in death by the following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Raymond Stouwie, Jane (Stouwie) and Raymond De Geest and Marjorie (Stouwie) Leftwich.

Faye was baptized at the Sully Christian Reformed Church in Sully, Iowa and since 1950 had been a faithful member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa.
