Jesse E. Horne was born April 6, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Ruben O. Horne and Louise (Harris) Horne.

Jesse grew up in the Illinois area and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on November 19, 1963 and was honorably discharged on January 26, 1968. Following his discharge he attended and graduated from college with a degree in horticulture.

On August 23, 2003 he was united in marriage to Shirley Whitfield in Evanston, Illinois. The couple moved to Knoxville in August of 2006.

Jesse loved all sports including golf and had been an All State Wrestler in High School. Jesse was known as quite a conversationalist and loved to share the knowledge he gained from his life and the many books he read.

Jesse passed away on Monday, November 16, 2009 at the Knoxville VA Facility at the age of 64 years and 7 months.

He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, Louie & Charlene Harris and Ruben O. Horne & Erin Listenbee Horne, nephew, Gary Horne, brother-in-law, Charles A. Horne, sister-in-law, Juanita Horne.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Shirley Whitfield; mother, Louise Horne of Calumet City, IL; siblings, Theris Lovell Horne Adair of Memphis, TN, Ernest Horne of Florida, Midred Horne Huet of Chicago, IL, Gloria Horne McCormick of Calumet Park, IL, Tracey Horne Herrel of Calumet City, IL, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
