Kane, Beryl C. 1916-2009

Beryl Charles Kane was born November 21, 1916 in Prairie City, Iowa, the son of Roy Kane and Leora (Goodspeed) Kane.

Following graduation from Prairie City High School Beryl farmed in the Ankeny area for a short time.

He was united in marriage to G. Louise Rouwenhorst at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on May 21, 1938. The couple farmed in the Pleasantville area until moving to a farm near Knoxville in 1964. Beryl and Louise had a dairy and hog operation, in addition to cropland, and worked side by side throughout their marriage.

Beryl was very active in conservation tillage, terracing and many other methods of soil conservation In 2007 Beryl was given the Marion County Soil & Water Conservation District Award in recognition of his outstanding accomplishment in soil and water conservation and proper land use.

He was also very active in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, in Pleasantville, and was a 4-H leader. The greatest legacy Beryl leaves, is his family; he cherished his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Beryl passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 8 days.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Judy (Jerry) Richards of Pleasantville, Linda (Ron) Rodgers of Knoxville; grandchildren, Deb (Brad) Klauenberg, Jason (Nicole) Rodgers, Tisha (Jeremy) Hansen; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Rodgers, Amanda (Pat) Wall, unborn baby Hansen, great-great-grandchild, Addison Wall and many other family members and friends.
