Shirley Ann Kading was born May 31, 1945 in Knoxville, Iowa the daughter of Leo and Ruth (Flanagan) Kading.

She graduated from Pleasantville High School with the Class of 1963. Following high school, Shirley attended Nurse’s Training at Iowa Methodist Hospital where she received her R.N. Degree. She worked for Iowa Methodist, primarily in the premature nursery, for over twenty years. Shirley retired from the Johnston Convalescent Home in January of 2008.

In her spare time, Shirley loved to travel with her family and work on their genealogy. She was a caregiver, not only at work, but for all her family and friends. She stayed in contact with some of the babies she cared for throughout childhood and into adulthood. She was a true example of a compassionate and caring nurse, sister and friend.

Shirley passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 64 years and 6 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James and Thomas and her sister, Rose Marie Kading.

Shirley is survived by numerous cousins, aunts and friends.
