Loretta Katherine Bumgardner was born September 29, 1921 near Dunreath, Iowa the daughter of Willie and Alpha (Amos) Brown.

She was a graduate of Monroe High School and was a student teacher for one year prior to marrying Dale Bumgardner on June 15, 1941 in Unionville, Missouri. To this union two children were born: a son, Larry and a daughter, Connie.

Loretta was a stay at home mom when her children were young and worked at Cummings Book Store and Harrison Variety during the 60’s and 70’s. She and Dale lived on Rock Island Street for over 20 years before moving to Leighton to live by their daughter in 1990.

She was a member of the Community of Christ Church and loved to cook, bake and play the piano. Family get-togethers and holiday dinners were her specialties. She was a friend to everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed.

Loretta passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the West Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 15 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale and her sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Beryl Staley.

Those surviving Loretta include her daughter, Connie (Norman) Sneller of Leighton; son, Larry (Audrey) Bumgardner of Knoxville; seven grandchildren, Terri and David Kingery, Jason, Justin and Jeremy Bumgardner, and Rhonda and Timothy Sneller; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
