Velma June Lundy was born June 16, 1922, in Nebraska City, Nebraska, the daughter of Earl C. Lundy and Elsie J. (Cook) Lundy.

At the age of 6 months June’s family moved to Iowa. She grew up in Fremont County and graduated from Thurman Consolidated Schools with the Class of 1938. In 1940 she received her diploma from Fabar Junior College. June taught in rural schools and was the 6th grade teacher in Sidney, Iowa from 1943 to 1945.

On March 20, 1943 she was united in marriage to Guy Herbert Boyd in Denver, Colorado. When World War II ended, the Boyd’s moved to Knoxville. June earned her B.S. in 1952 and her Master’s degree in Guidance & Counseling in 1964, both from Drake University. She was a classroom teacher in the Knoxville Junior High for 17 years and was their guidance counselor for the last 20 years of her employment. She retired in 1984 to spend more time with her husband.

June was very active in the First United Methodist Church and volunteered at West Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center. Her accolades include being voted “Teacher of the Year” and “Woman of the Year”.

June passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2009 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 24 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters: Ora Ann Davis and Ava Mae Vohs and her brother William H. Lundy.

Those left to honor her memory include her sister, Mary Cordell of Maryville, Missouri and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Burial: Graceland Cemetery, Knoxville, IA
