Richard Forest Bowers was born July 7, 1915 in Prairie City, Iowa to Richmond Saulers and Martha Alice (Booth) Bowers.
Forest graduated from Beech High School in 1935 where he played basketball. He then went on to farm the family farm near Pleasantville. He continued to farm for 60 years.
Forest enjoyed reading the newspaper, eating popcorn, and drinking Pepsi, often doing them all at the same time. He also enjoyed hunting mushrooms and tending to his farm. Forest was known for being a bit of a talker and a storyteller.
He passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at his neighbors Wayne & Kathy Collins’s residence at the age of 93 years, 2 months and 4 days.
Forest was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Veda Wheeldon, Vernie Bowers, Lois Bingaman Akers, Clara Briggs, an infant sister; nephews, Richard Bowers, Richmond Bingaman, Leroy Wheeldon and a niece Agnes Christensen.
He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Shives of Knoxville; 18 nieces and nephews and many other family members and wonderful friends.
