Antonie (Tonie) Van Ryswyk, age 101, of Knoxville, completed his life’s journey here on earth October 6, 2008, at Westridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Knoxville, Iowa.

He was born October 8, 1906 in the Silver Grove neighborhood west of Pella, Iowa, the son of Mathys William (Tice) and Hermina Johanna (Minnie) (Van Helten) Van Ryswyk.

Throughout his life he has lived in many communities, including Pella, Otley, Greenfield, Monroe, Pleasantville, Milo, and Knoxville.

Tonie married Jeanette Klyn at the First Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa, daughter of Martin and Anna (Van Gorp) Klyn on December 18, 1928. To this union one daughter was born, Anna Marie, September 25, 1929. Jeanette passed away on June 21, 1934 at Knoxville, Iowa.

On January 31, 1937, Tonie married Wilma L. Caulkins, daughter of Walter and Neatha Caulkins at the First Christian Church in Knoxville. Tonie and Wilma have shared over seventy-one years together. They farmed for many years living in the Bunker Hill neighborhood northwest of Pleasantville, Springdale neighborhood southwest of Pleasantville and for over 30 years three miles east of Milo.

Tonie was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, member of the Shrine, Odd Fellows and Eastern Star. He also served on the election board at Milo and worked for many years at Bingley Sale Barn after retiring and moving to Knoxville in the spring of 1972.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma of Knoxville; daughter, Anna Marie Metcalf of Pleasantville; grandchildren, Craig (Joyce) Metcalf, Bobbi (Mark) Milledge; great-grandchildren, Michael (Lindsay) Metcalf, Bradley (Jessica) Metcalf, Adam Milledge, Ryan Milledge; and great-great-grandchildren, Cody Metcalf, Colton Metcalf and Carter Metcalf all of Pleasantville; sisters Orpha Ulm and Mildred and husband Victor Maeschen of Pleasantville; brother Willard Van Ryswyk of Pleasantville; sister in-law Mary Van Ryswyk of Indianola, brother in-law Jack Viers of Pleasantville, and sister in-law Opal De Heer of Knoxville, and many nieces, nephews cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, son in-law Howard Metcalf, sister Jennie Slykhuis, brothers Dick, Marion, James and Don.
