Goemaat, Floyd, Sr. (1923-2008)

Floyd Goemaat, Sr. was born June 20, 1923 in Marion County, Iowa the son of Arend and Peternella (Schakel) Goemaat.

He was raised in the Melcher-Dallas and Attica areas. As a young man, he went to work as a farm hand.

In April of 1944 he was united in marriage to Mildred Eldora Wallace. Floyd worked as a carpenter, ranch hand and farmed in rural Swan and Attica. He retired in 1987 and he and Mildred moved to Pleasantville. For the last five years he has been a resident of West Ridge.

In his spare time, Floyd enjoyed fishing and doing craft carpentry for family and friends. His greatest joy was his family and he was an especially proud grandpa.

Floyd passed away Saturday, October 4, 2008 at the West Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 14 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Nathan Goemaat; wife, Mildred; son, Douglas Dean; brothers: Abe, Leonard and Lester and his sisters: Alice Mathes, Irene Hancock, Johanna Jones, Frances Whitlatch and Mildred Spaur.

Those left to honor his memory include his children: Judy Ann Wolfe (David), Floyd Goemaat, Jr. (Teresa), Jerri Marie Hall and Patricia Lou Tille (Alfred) all of Knoxville; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Goemaat of Pella and his daughter-in-law, Rebecca Joann Goemaat of Knoxville and many other family members and friends.
