Ella (Maurine) Lemon, 91, of Knoxville passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Griffin Nursing Center in Knoxville. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2009 from 2-6 p.m. with the family present from 4-6 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2009 also at Williams Funeral Home with Reverend Bud Lane officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Chapel Cemetery.

Maurine was born on October 6, 1918 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Harvey and Ella Rae (Doss) Alexander. She grew up in Oklahoma where she attended and graduated from high school. She attended Oklahoma A&M College (Oklahoma State University) for 2 years.

It was at college where she met and later married Steen Cooley Lemon on December 11, 1938 in Stillwater, OK. The couple lived in various places while Steen was finishing his education, but most of the time was spent in Oklahoma until they moved to a farm in the Chariton area in 1954. They later moved to the Columbia area in 1963.

Maurine worked at the Hy-Vee headquarters in Chariton for 23 years until she retired in 1977. She also helped Steen on the farm doing whatever needed to be done until they both retired from farming in 1988. Maurine was a member of the Olive Chapel United Methodist Church for many years. She enjoyed being with her family and friends. She was an avid reader, enjoyed sewing and making all kinds of different things with material. Maurine was the type of person that everyone loved and loved to be with.

Maurine is survived by her three children, Nell Wilson and husband Dale of Crocker, MO; Marilyn Brown and husband Ed of Brooklyn Park, MN; and Steen Lemon and wife Maria of Fleetwood, PA; 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Steen C. Lemon Sr. on May 4, 1998, two brothers, Milton Alexander and Patric Alexander, and a sister, Mildred Johnson.
