Merril Clyde Woods, 69, of Knoxville passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2009, at the Harvey Assembly of God Church with Pastor Michael Miller officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Services will conclude at the church and burial will be held at a later date.

Merril was born on September 22, 1940, in Osceola, Iowa to Albert Willard and Mariam Opal (Jacobs) Woods. He grew up in the Des Moines area where he attended grade school. He attended Des Moines Tech and then graduated from Derby High School in 1958.

On September 20, 1964, Merril married Regina Swinscoe at the Assembly of God Church in Chariton, Iowa. He worked for Montgomery Wards for a couple of years, and in maintenance at Clow Corp. In 1974, he began working at Collins Memorial Hospital also in maintenance and moved to the Knoxville Area Hospital & Clinic with their new building. He worked at the hospital for 32 years until he retired on May 12, 2006. Merril and Regina loved riding motorcycles, boating and camping. He was a long time member of the Harvey Assembly of God Church, where he loved to volunteer to do whatever needed to be done.

Merril is survived by his wife, Regina, son Timothy Woods and wife Sheryl of Altoona, IA; 4 grandchildren, Emily, Shane, JoAnn and Josiah, one brother, John Woods and wife Jean, and two sisters, Marjorie Blough and husband Ron and Wanda Vande Linde and husband Ken, and his beloved dog, Abby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Opal Woods.
