Wilson, Agnes M. (Durham) 1915-2009

Agnes Martha Wilson was born May 16, 1915 on the family farm north of Harvey, Iowa. She was one of two children born to Ticia Dykstra and J. Lemuel “Lem” Durham. Agnes graduated from Harvey High School in 1933. She worked as the Harvey postmistress for a few years.

Agnes Martha Durham was united in marriage to Rupert Raymond Wilson January 2, 1937. Rupert farmed while Agnes handled the bookkeeping for the family farm. She was also an excellent cook and prepared the meals for the working men and farm hands. Agnes was an excellent pianist. She and Rupert spent many hours entertaining people with their musical skills. Agnes lived her entire life in Marion County. She was an active member of the Knoxville First United Methodist Church

Agnes passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Griffin’s Nursing Center at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 22 days.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and brother, Lester Durham.

Mrs. Wilson is leaves a dear friend, Muriel Goemaat of Knoxville as well as several nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Knoxville First United Methodist Church Chapel with Pastor Art Hill and Chaplain Bill Lane officiating. Interment was in Eureka Cemetery, rural Marion County, Iowa.

Musical selections were “Amazing Grace”, “In the Garden”, and “The Old Rugged Cross”. Vocalist was Lela McKinney. Organist was Nora DeReus. Casket bearers were John and Randy Bogaards, Eric and Ron Goemaat and Harry and Jon Verhoef.
