Roush, Delbert "B" 1922-2009

Delbert Burton Roush was born February 26, 1922 in Red Rock Township in Marion County, Iowa. He was one of six children born to Marjorie Mae Roff and George William Roush. Delbert attended rural country schools in the Red Rock area. His entire life was spent in Marion County.

On July 2, 1948, Delbert Burton Roush was united in marriage to Marilyn Jeanne Miller in Stuart, Iowa. To this union three children were born.

Delbert, or “B” as he was known to his friends, farmed for many years near Columbia. He was a longtime member of the Columbia and later Attica Masonic Lodge, receiving his 50-year certificate of membership from the Grand Lodge of Iowa in July, 1999. He also belonged to the Columbia United Methodist Church, and was a member of various antique car clubs including the Dutch Masters Car Club of Pella. “B” had an antique car collection and was especially proud of the 1934 Ford he had restored. They enjoyed driving it in local parades and sharing it with their grandchildren. He also liked to restore antique furniture and toys, and loved to go fishing. Marilyn and “B” also shared a love for antiques. They spent many happy hours together traveling and collecting their favorites. “B” was always ready for a card game. His favorites were pitch, pinochle and bridge. Marilyn and “B” spent many hours dancing. They were most fond of Big Band music and square dancing.

Delbert Burton Roush passed away on Monday, January 26, 2009 at Madrid Home at the age of 86 years and 11 months. He and his family were grateful for the loving care and kindness he found there in his last years.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and three brothers, Delmar, Marion, and Joe.

Those left to mourn his passing are three children, Vicki Needham of Bondurant and her husband, Kevin, Teri Siberski of Ames, and Wayne Roush of Denison and his wife, Pat; two grandchildren, Sean and Cori Siberski of Ames; one sister, Marjorie Roush of Des Moines and one brother, Bill Roush of Phoenix, AZ and his wife, Norene. He will be sadly missed by his family who loved him very much, his very dear friend Delores Agan, and many other friends and neighbors that he was proud to have known throughout his life.

A memorial service was held on Friday, January 30, 2009 at Williams Funeral Home with Rev. Brent Hanna officiating. Interment was in Dunreath Cemetery, rural Marion County, Iowa. Musical selections were “How Great Thou Art” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” Jim Kidder was the organist. Bearers were Sean Siberski and Cori Siberski. A Masonic Service was provided by Gavel Lodge #229 of Attica.
