THRASHER

Bill passed away at the age of 83 years of age. His health had been failing for several years. He had been in Griffins Nursing Center since October. During that time, the only place he really wanted to be was home with his Lord and Savior. Jesus granted that wish on Christmas morning; taking Bill peacefully home to be with Him, a gift we could never ask him to return.

Bill retired from the VA Hospital in 1981 after 35 years of service. He was the Chief Fiscal Officer in Battle Creek, MI and in Ft. Wayne, IN. He also had been at Marion, IN after starting with the VA in Knoxville.

After retiring, he needed something to keep him busy, so he got his realty license. That kept him on the go; he also did the yard work at his church for many years until his health forced him to give that up. Bill was in WWII in the South Pacific. He came home as a Staff Sergeant, met Louise, and they were married November 27, 1946. To this marriage four children were born.

Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise of Knoxville; daughter Eileen and Lynn Dachenbach of Knoxville, son Marvin and Patti Thrasher, who are missionaries in Papua New Guinea, son Calvin and Ronda Thrasher of Knoxville; and a brother, David Thrasher. Bill is also survived by his four grandkids and six great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, and his son Steven William, who passed away shortly after his birth 58 years ago.

We will miss him so.

Funeral services were held on December 30, 2008 at the Church of the Nazarene in Knoxville with interment in the Chariton Cemetery, Chariton, Iowa. Casket bearers were: Patrick and Shawn Ealy, Anthony and Carlos Herrera, and Bradley and Casey Thrasher. Music selections were: “I Won’t Have to Cross Jordan Alone” with Jim French, Vocalist and Jeanie Shawver, Organist; Congregational Hymn was “I Know Whom I Have Believed”. Memorials in memory of Mr. Thrasher may be made to the Church of the Nazarene Mission, Papua New Guinea.
