Jenny Maxine Vancenbrock was born on November 20, 1917 in Marysville, Iowa. She was one of two children born to Millie Bernice Dufner and Hugh William Davies. Maxine spent her entire life in the Pershing area.

On November 27, 1935 Jenny Maxine Davies was united in marriage to Marshall Vancenbrock. To this union four children were born.

During her younger years Maxine cleaned houses and did laundry for people. She also worked a short time at Pella Corp. The majority of Maxine’s life was spent as a homemaker. Maxine enjoyed cooking, baking and canning. One of her specialties was pate’. Maxine also spent many hours crocheting: afghans, dolls, doilies and almost anything else that can be crocheted. In later years Maxine and Marshall went “to town” every day to shop and get something to eat. When she no longer got out much, Maxine enjoyed watching the birds from her feeder. She took great pride in her family and was interested in their activities and life. Family was always the center of Maxine’s life.

Maxine Vancenbrock passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 91 years and 28 days.

Those family members preceding her in death were her parents; husband; 4 grandchildren, Monty and Ricky Vancenbrock, Randy and Sherry Vancenbrock who died in infancy and one great-granddaughter, Erica Little.

Those family members left to mourn her passing are four children, Larry Vancenbrock and his wife, Patty of Hamilton, Jerry Vancenbrock of Knoxville, Sandra Swank and her husband, Bob of Pershing and Marsha Reida and her husband, Clair of Knoxville; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; 1 sister-in-law, Dorothy Casias of Albuquerque, NM; and 1 nephew, Ted Harris of Oskaloosa.

Funeral services were held on December 23, 2008 at Williams Funeral Home with Elder William McDonald officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery. Casket bearers were Aaron Alexander, Scott Bingham, Danny Swank, Chris, Ted and Tim Vancenbrock and Scott Waters. Musical selections were “The Old Rugged Cross”, a CD by Ricky Van Shelton; “Holes In the Floor of Heaven”, a CD by Steve Wariner and “Goodbye Is The Saddest Word”, a CD by Celine Dion.
