Johnson, Charles T. 1932-2008

Charles Theodore Johnson was born March 14, 1932. He was one of two sons born to Edith Arkema and Roy Theodore Johnson. Charles graduated from Bussey High School in 1950.

On July 4, 1952 Charles was united in marriage to Lois Marie Bingham. To this union six children were born. Charles entered the US Army and served in Korea. He was a communications worker and mechanic. He kept the battalion generators working.

Lois and Charles farmed for two years north of Melcher. They moved to their current farm and lived till January 2007. After retiring Lois and Charles moved to Bussey. Charles loved farming. He raised livestock until his help-the kids left home. He then raised mostly hay. During this time Charles also worked at McConvell and Mich Coal Mines. He also had a gas station and auto mechanics shop in Lovilia. Charles was gifted with the ability of get machinery working. After retirement Lois and Charles went on several Billy Cole Trips. They thoroughly enjoyed the traveling and comradery on the trips.

Charles passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at the Pella Regional Medical Center at the age of 76 years, 7 months and 1 day.

Those family members who preceded him in death were his parents; one brother, Marvin; and one son, Martin.

Those family members left to mourn his passing are his wife of 56 years, Lois Johnson of Bussey; one son and his wife, Richard and Val Johnson of Bussey; four daughters, Sheryl Johnson of Lovilia, Karol Clark and her husband, Danny, Linda Visser and her husband, Larry and Susan Pettyjohn and her husband, Kris; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held on Monday, October 20, 2008 at Williams Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Vander Hart officiating. Interment was in Bellefountaine Cemetery, Mahaska County, Iowa. Casket bearers were Gerald Chamberlin, Danny Clark, Geof Gibbons, Danny, Jeremy and Richard Johnson and Larry Visser. Honorary casket bearer was Garould Johnson. Musical selections were “Amazing Grace” and “In the Garden”. Randy Klobneck was the vocalist. Jim Kidder was the organist. “Daddy’s Hands”, a CD by Holly Dunn was also played.
