Jeanice Ann Neal was born on December 19, 1960 in Adams County, Iowa. She was one of seven children born to Nellie Sandra Kay Ray and Bernard L. Johannes. Jeanice attended grade school in Lenox, Iowa and graduated from Pocahontas Community High School in 1979. Jeanice attended school in Kansas City and Southwest Community College in Creston where she met Gary Lynn Neal. They were married April 14, 1984. To this union two children were born.

Jeanice was employed over 20 years at Pella Corp. She was forced to retire due to disability about two years ago. Jeanice also worked at Hormel and West Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was also a member of Faith Baptist Church in Knoxville.

Jeanice enjoyed making a home for her family and decorating it. Children always had a special place in Jeanice’s heart, especially her grandson. Gary and Jeanice spent many happy hours together eating out, going to movies or just being together.

Jeanice Ann Neal passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 47 years, 8 months and 29 days.

Preceding her in death were her two brothers, Jay and Bernie Johannes.

Those left to mourn her passing are her husband of 24 years, Gary Neal of Knoxville; one daughter, Tara Neal of Knoxville; one son, Trent Neal and his fiancé, Carries Jones of Ankeny; one grandson, Chandler Thomas of Knoxville; her parents, Kay and Bernard Johannes of Pocahontas; one sister, Sandy Christensen of Fonda; three brothers, Daniel Johannes of Des Moines, Bruce Johannes and his wife, Emily of Pocahontas, and Quincy Johannes and his wife, Trish of Avon as well as many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Curt Gordon officiating. Interment was in Zion Cemetery, rural Marion County, Iowa. Casket bearers were Mike Fisher, Matt Lilly, Jack McFarland, Eldon and Richard Ray and Curtis Taylor. Honorary casket bearers were Hugo Anderson and Ronald Piercy.
