John C. Vroom, son of Catharener and Jennie Vroom, was born March 5, 1865, in Ganeren, Netherlands, and died December 29, 1953, at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 24 days at the home of his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Brower.
The deceased came to America at the age of seven years with his parents and two sisters who preceded him in death. On March 1, 1888, he was united in marriage with Cornelia Marie van Zee, who preceded him in death, May 9, 1949. To this union six children were born. One daughter, Margaret, died in infancy.
Surviving are his two sons and three daughters, Catharener, Carrie, Mrs. Charles Newendorp, Jeanette, Mrs. Ben Brower, Margaret van Houweling and Cornie; also ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Vroom lived on a farm near Leighton for twenty-eight years then moved to the Madison neighborhood where they lived until 1931. Then they took up residence in Oskaloosa. After the death of his wife he made his home with his children. Pella Chronicle.
