William Fairley, living four miles north of Pleasantville, died on Tuesday morning, Aug. 28, at the age of 70 years. The cause of his death seems to have been liver complaint, having been sorely afflicted for nearly three weeks. He was an old settler of Marion county, having lived in Swan township for nearly forty years.
Wm. Fairley was born at Sterling, Scotland, April 23, 1830. He married Miss Mary Gaston, Feb. 16, 1854. To this union were born 10 children, 8 of whom survive him (five were in attendance at the funeral).
Mr. Fairley was christened a member of the old Scotch Presbyterian church when an infant. When 30 years of age he was baptized by J. B. Noe and became a member of the Christian church. He lived consistently and passed away quietly – assuring his wife and kindred that he was ready and longing to go.
The funeral was conducted by F. D. Ferrall at the home, Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 1 p.m. Interment was made in the Swan cemetery.
