Died, at his home in Dallas, Saturday morning at four o’clock, Leonard Goff, aged 46 years, 11 months and 14 days.
Deceased had for several years suffered from consumption and for the past six months had been confined to the house.
The funeral was held at the M.E. church in Dallas on Monday at 10 a.m. conducted by Rev. Heckathorn and the remains were buried in the Fairview Cemetery.
Leonard Goff was born in Green county, Kentucky, March 29, 1849. His parents moved to Iowa in 1850, thence to Missouri and again to Iowa about 1866. He married Miss Sarah Ellen Campbell in 1870. Their union was blessed with nine children, four sons and five daughters, seven of whom are still living. He first joined the M. E. church in Dallas over twenty years ago.
His friends and neighbors knew him to be a jovial, kind, and loyal citizen, always ready to lend a helping hand to any enterprise for the benefit of church or community. In times of sickness or death Leonard Goff was a man who was not excelled in devotion and kindness to the afflicted or bereaved ones.
The last year and a half of his life his faith, trust and confidence in God as his redeemer have been unshaken, and when asked as to the attitude of his soul toward God he always replied smiling, “Oh, the best kind!”
The bereaved wife and children we (one line of print was smeared) promised to care for the widow and the orphan. Though it seems that their share of trouble and sorrow is especially heavy, we trust and believe it may weave a brighter crown for them for eternity.
