Thomas Walter "Tom" Heigh, 71, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, Sept. 2, at University Hospital in Iowa City. The body has been cremated, and a memorial service is planned for a later date. Memorials: Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa, Kidney Foundation or American Lung Association. Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa is in charge of arrangements.
Tom Haigh was born March 7, 1929, in Des Moines to Percy C. and Leila Bratton Haigh. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines in 1947. He married Vernice V. Robison on Dec. 24, 1948, in Des Moines. He enlisted in the Air Force and was discharged in 1953. He then moved to Oskaloosa and was credit manager of the Sherwin-Williams Paint Store. In 1955 he moved to Grand Rapids, Mich., where he was assistant manager and credit manager for Sherwin-Williams. In 1976 he moved to Grinnell, where he and his wife owned and operated Village Decorating, a paint and decorating store. He retired in 1983 and moved back to Oskaloosa in 1988. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church; former member of the Oskaloosa Chamber of Commerce; and a veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Vernice Haigh of Oskaloosa; a daughter and son-in-law: Robin and Vern Van Wyk of Oskaloosa; a son, Scott Haigh of Henderson, Nev.; two grandchildren: Whitney and Scott Van Wyk of Oskaloosa; a step-grandson, Mark Van Wyk of Oskaloosa; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Shirley and Dick Thomas of Davenport, Jean Knudsen of Dallas Center, and Tamzon and Earl Melos of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, Ida Haigh. (The Oskaloosa Herald, unknown)
