Carolyn Dop Johnston, 77, of 306 North 9th, Oskaloosa, died Friday, Dec. 9, 1988 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born in Lineus [sic], Mo., Oct. 1, 1911, the daughter of Hendrik and Mary Starkenburg Groenenboom.
On January 25, 1924, she married Ralph Dop. He died May 1, 1974. On June 28, 1976 she married Maurice Johnston of Knoxville.
She is survived by her husband, Maurice of Oskaloosa; two sons, Gene Dop of Leighton and Don Dop of Rose Hill; two sisters, Ella Groenenboom and Emma Knoot, both of Oskaloosa; one brother, Raymond Groenenboom of Pella; four step-sons; two step-daughters; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Dop, her parents, four sisters, and three brothers.
Funeral services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Rev. John Frey officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery.
There will be a prayer service Monday at 1:15 p.m. in the church wing.
Memorials may be made to either Hospice of Mahaska County or the Knoxville Bible Study Group.
The family will be at the Newman Funeral Chapel on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm. to greet friends and relatives.
