Charles Chamra, the son of Frank J. and Julia Enegar Chamra, was born in Tama County, Iowa on March 28, 1920.
He lived in the Toledo area for the first 11 years of his life, until moving to the Rose Hill area where he attended rural school, the old Wymore school. On August 4, 1938, he was united in marriage to Maxine Moore in Iowa City. To this union was born 4 children: Wayne, John, Lee and Faye. Charles farmed in the Rose Hill area until retiring in 1979 and then moved into Oskaloosa.
On Wednesday evening, April 14, 1993, Charles died at the Mahaska County Hospital at the age of 73 years and 16 days.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Oskaloosa; 2 sons and their wives: John and Judy Chamra of New Sharon and Lee and Kathy Chamra of Leighton; and a daughter and her husband: Faye and Gordon Foster of Pella. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren: Brian and Brad Chamra, Keith and David Foster, Cathy Roozeboom, and Peggy Hoyt; 1 great grandson: Cody Foster; 1 step great-granddaugther: Jackie Roozeboom; and a sister: Mrs. Caroline Walsh of Oskaloosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Wayne Chamra on September 17, 1979, a granddaughter: Karen Foster, and 2 brothers: William and Robert Chamra.
Services were held Saturday, April 17, 1993 at 10:30 a.m. at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, Iowa, with the Rev. Michael Crouch of the First Christian Church of Oskaloosa officiating. The interment was held in Hopewell Cemetery near Rose Hill, Iowa. (From funeral card)
