Raymond O. Sears, 89, of Pleasant Park Manor, Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 1989 at Mahaska County Hospital. He was born July 14, 1900, the ninth child and fourth son of Thomas and Ida Jane Speaks Pears. He was born near Livonia, Putnam County, Mo.
He was united in marriage with Nevah Thatcher on Dec. 22, 1923 in Oskaloosa. They had resided at 308 South B Street in Oskaloosa for 50 years. He was a retired electrical contractor owner and was also previously employed with the Oskaloosa Police Department.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, a 50 year member of the First Christian Church Choir, the Knights of Pythias Lodge, Knights of Khorassen, Nomads of Avrudaka, a member of the Pythian Four Quartet for over 25 years, and the Mahaska County Peace Officers. He was also previously a member of the Oskaloosa City Council for several years.
He is survived by his twin daughter, Mrs. Charles (Ellen) Loreen Kentfield of Oskaloosa, and two sisters, Mrs. Lena Libby of Charleston, Ill., and Mrs. Frances Franklin of Winter Haven, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nevah Sears, on Feb. 28, 1980, his twin daughter, Helen Loena Sears on Feb. 14, 1930, his parents and his brothers, Frank, Charles, and James Homer Sears, and sisters, Lenora Stevens, Nell Taylor, Loreen Griffin, and Edith Jones.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa with Rev. David Troxler and Rev. Ola I. Harrison of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery. The family will be present at Garland-Van Arkel- Langkamp Funeral Chapel from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Music Fund.
