December 4, 1943 - October 7, 2024

Charlotte Douglas passed away October 7, 2024 at Azria Nursing Home in Winterset. She was 80 years old and fought a short but valiant battle with brain cancer.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 14, 2024 at the Winterset Community Church with family greeting friends one hour prior beginning at 10:00 a.m. A private family burial will take place in the Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a future designation.

Charlotte was born on December 4, 1943 in Fort Dodge, IA to Leota and John Summers.

Her first career path was as an active partner in the farm life and raising four ornery and mischievous kids. She then went back to school and obtained her masters to fulfill her giving heart. She worked as a counselor with eating disorders, Gamblers' Anonymous and then at Salvation Army teaching job skills. It took her 3 attempts to retire before finally getting the hang of it. She then rounded out her time volunteering for hospice and helping the elderly (aka those older than herself!)

She loved being involved with whatever the grandkids and great-grandkids had going on. She moved back to Winterset just to be closer for their activities, no matter how big or small. She also loved to quilt and if you were lucky enough to have received one then consider yourself special.

Charlotte is survived by her children, Tom (Kellie) Spencer, Deb (Craig) Hubby, and Ben (Tiffany) Spencer; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Janice Trainor; Nancy (Tom) Dawson and Ed (Linda Erickson) Summers; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse of 28 years, Dave Douglas; daughter, Tamme Frazier; and siblings, Leslie, John, Ilene, Dennis, Phyllis, Joyce and Clara.
