Page 5Rachel White was born in Muskingum county, Ohio, June 3d 1832, and was married to Wm. Logan, Feb. 23d, 1854. To them was born one child who died in infancy. In 1864 they came to Iowa and settled on a farm in Jackson township [Benton County]. they were among the first settlers of the county and know thoroughly the pioneer's life.
Mrs. Logan's life was of the most exact consistency with her profession. Having no family of her own living she reared three small girls to womanhood, and brought them up to be ornaments to society, and Christians of the best type. Two boys also she took to her home and gave them shelter and the benefits of her guidance till old enough to care for themselves.
Mrs. Logan was kind and calm and full of good emotions and deeds. To know her was to love her. In affliction she was patient and perfectly submissive to the Divine will. She trusted her Savior and rested on his promises. She had charity for all and malice toward none. She departed this in peace and her works do follow her.
The funeral was held Sunday, Nov. 3d at the ME Church, conducted by Rev. T.M. Evans, assisted by Rev. Wm. Cobb. The remains were taken after the services to the residence of Mr. S.M. Edmonds to await the night train which would bear them to Madison, Iowa there to be laid beside her husband.
