Jimmie Dale Hylton, 90, of Westminster, Colorado passed away Sunday, June 9, 2024.
Jimmie was born September 14, 1933, in Winterset, Iowa, the son of Dale and Ida [Ila] Hylton (both deceased). He married Peggy Jane Sawyer on September 1, 1957, in Winterset Iowa. They had two sons and later divorced in 1973. He later married Bonnie Faulkner on July 4, 1990. Bonnie passed away on May 9, 2024.
Jimmie graduated from Winterset High School in 1951 then joined the Navy in August of 1951, serving his country until June of 1954. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he enrolled at Iowa State where he received a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in history.
He was very proud of his two published books, “Searchlite Stop: A Madison County Chronicle” and “Thief” for which he won an award for “Best True Crime Novel” in 2006. Jimmie loved camping and fishing with his sons, Joe and Jack Hylton. He absolutely loved a good story and was also a very talented storyteller and author.
He is survived by his son, Joe Hylton, Joe’s wife, Lisa and their son, Luke Hylton and his other son, Jack Hylton, Jack’s wife, Marie, and their two daughters, Hannah Hylton and Alyssa Hylton. Also, stepdaughter, Lisa Kehmeier, her husband, Wayne and step-grandchildren, Brittney and Trever and stepdaughter, Teresa Faulkner and her son, Tyson Faulkner.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel followed by graveside military honors at the Peru Cemetery, East Peru, Iowa. Family will greet friends one hour prior, beginning at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Wounded Warrior Project.
