Nick passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at the MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Nick was born October 10, 1989 in Norfolk, NE to BJ & Sharon Koeppe. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Norfolk, NE. Nick grew up in Hadar and attended Hadar Elementary School through 6th grade. He then graduated from Pierce High School in May, 2008. Nick was involved in several activities in high school: jazz band, concert band, marching band, wrestling, track, and cross county. Nick always loved competition, especially when it came to competing with his brother. He attended Southwestern Comm. College in Creston, IA where he was a member of the cross-country team and graduated with an associate degree in building construction in May, 2010.
After graduating from college, Nick returned to Hadar and worked for Chad Theisen Construction as a framer. He was a member of the Hadar Volunteer Fire Department. In 2012, he and his wife moved to Winterset, IA where he worked for GIBCO as a heavy equipment operator. During this time, he also started working as a subcontractor for Chris Davis of D&H Services as a construction worker, maintenance worker, snow removal worker and mobile home installer. In 2012 he started his own business, Koeppe Construction, working this job along with his full-time jobs. He started his career with the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) shortly thereafter, starting out doing snow removal. He quickly secured a full-time position with the Iowa DOT in their Martensdale, IA location. He worked for the DOT for several years in several positions: highway maintenance worker, shop mechanic, and then shop supervisor. In May, 2023 he was hired as a deputy for the Adams County Sherriff in Corning, IA. Nick had found his "dream job."
On September 4, 2011 Nick married Kylie Gibson in Winterset, IA. To this union was born 3 beautiful children: Sawyer, Harper and Maddox. Nick and Kylie later divorced. His three children were the loves of his life, and he truly treasured the time he spent with them.
Nick was an extremely hard worker, a dare devil, and thrill seeker, often sending his mother into near cardiac arrest. He loved framing houses and walking on the tops of walls and rafters. He enjoyed operating heavy equipment and was very mechanically inclined. In his free time, he enjoyed running in half marathons and trail runs and working out in the gym. Nick had a big, soft heart and would often give beyond his means. He was a kind and respectful man. He had a great smile and an excellent sense of humor. He developed many good friendships along his life journey. His family and friends are already missing his presence in this world. Nick loved talking about his jobs and he would often call his mom, dad, or brother to share his day with them. We will all miss his phone calls.
Nick is survived by his children: Sawyer, Harper and Maddox and his ex-wife (Winterset, IA), parents BJ & Sharon Koeppe (Hadar, NE), brother and sister-in-law Matt and Christiana and their son Jones, Nick's Godson (Emerson, NE), and grandmother Eleanor Starman (Wisner, NE). He is preceded in death by his grandparents Bill and Betty Koeppe and Herman Starman, step-grandfather James VonSeggern, his uncle Gary Jobman and aunt Susan Starman.
Pallbearers will be Nick’s cousins Chris Jobman, Eric Baumert, Josh Starman, Justin Starman, Jamie Koeppe, Evan Koeppe, and Kaden Glennon.
