Margaret Krauss, 85, of Winterset, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Azria Health Winterset.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of remembrance one hour prior, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the church. The family requests that memorials be directed to the First Christian Church.

Margaret was born in Bloomfield, Iowa, on May 14, 1938, the daughter of Fred and Gwendolyn (Westbrook) Johnson. She graduated from Bloomfield High School and went on to complete her education at NE Missouri State Teachers College in 1960, earning her Masters in 1963. Margaret dedicated 38 years to the field of education, with the majority of her teaching career spent in Winterset, Iowa. On August 4, 1968, she was united in marriage to Larry Krauss, and together they raised two children, Craig and Julie.

Margaret was a devoted and active member of the First Christian Church in Winterset. Known for her compassionate nature, she frequently visited shut-ins and served in various leadership roles within the church community, including serving as an elder, deacon, youth group leader, and church school teacher. She was also a former member of the church women's group and the Fortnightly Club.

Surviving Margaret are her children, Craig (Caren) Krauss of West Des Moines and Julie (Brad) Jones of Winterset; and three grandchildren, Kennedy Jones, Samantha Jones, and Charlee Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Gwendolyn; her husband, Larry; and a brother, Frank (Sandra) Johnson.

Margaret Krauss will be remembered not only for her dedication to education but also for her unwavering commitment to her faith, community, and family. Her legacy of kindness and service will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know her.
